Our gearkits for Ford gearboxes use straight cut gears for strength and minimum power loss, except those designed for group N use. All QUAIFE synchromesh gearkits retain the original synchromesh parts and selector mechanisms. Heavy duty gearkits use QUAIFE manufactured mainshafts and all free running gears run on precision roller bearings (some reconditioned parts are used during gearbox assembly). The heavy duty synchromesh and dog boxes require the use of the Ford heavy duty gear case known as the RS1800 or a modified standard case.

Ford Rocket Clubman synchro

This is a straight cut gearkit that retains the original Ford mainshaft. The layshaft is assembled using gears that can be replaced singly. Maximum power 190 bhp (not recommended for engine revs above 7500 rpm).

Ford Rocket Heavy Duty synchro

This gearkit is designed for higher revs and power outputs than the Clubman kit. Precision roller bearings are used between the QUAIFE mainshaft and its gears. The layshaft is the same design as the Clubman and the kit includes an alloy top cover to strengthen the gear case. Maximum power 275 bhp. Gearlever not included.

Ford Rocket, heavy duty dog engagement

Quaife's HD Dog Engagement Rocket Gearbox is based on the Ford "Rocket" 4 speed gearbox found in Mark IV Cortinas and Mark I Escorts. A derivative was also used here in the USA in the Pinto. The Quaife HD Rocket uses a Quaife manufactured mainshaft, and all free-running gears run on precision roller bearings. The layshaft also features individually replaceable gears. A Quaife made, alloy top cover is used to strengthen the case. Designed to transmit power outputs of up to 300bhp and engine revs up to 9000rpm, Quaife's HD Rocket is a dog-engagement (non-synchromesh) box using extra strong spur gears.
It has rapidly become the gearbox of choice in many 4 cylinder oval track racing series here in the USA, including the ARCA/Lincoln Welders Truck Series. It is available only as a complete gearbox, supplied with Quaife's own high strength operating block, upgraded shift forks, and a Quaife short-shift, spherical bearing gear lever, assembled in a stock Ford transmission housing. Input shaft spline is standard 1" 23T, and 3 standard lengths are available. Ratios for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears can be used in any combination.

Rocket - short tailcase

Both heavy duty synchromesh and dog engagement Rocket gearboxes can be supplied with a short tailcase that positions the gearlever 10 inches further forward. This is particularly suitable for clubman type sportscars with the engine/trans moved rearward in the chassis. Gearlever included. $350 core charge (additional) applies on complete gearboxes.

Ford Sierra (Type 9) 5 speed synchro

These gearkits, which are suitable for Sierra Type 9 (2 or 4WD) gearcases, follow the same format as the Rocket types. Clubman and heavy duty gearkits are available, as is a QUAIFE gear lever and steel baulk rings. Complete gearboxes are often the best solution, and can be used as a replacement gearbox for many applications. Gearlever not included. $350 core charge (additional) applies on complete gearboxes.

Ford Sierra 5 speed dog engagement
Available as a complete gearbox only. Suitable for race or rally use, the dog engagement enables this gearbox to transmit more horsepower while allowing a faster gear change. Available in all ratios as per Ford Sierra 5 speed synchromesh gearkit (above). Complete with Quaife's quick change gearlever. QUAIFE Gearlevers

A short shift gearlever built to improve and quicken the gear change. The lever is made in one piece, uses a spherical bearing for the most positive action and can be removed from its housing by releasing a circlip. New Caterham lever is shorter and bent to suit Caterham application.

Steel baulk rings (synchro rings) are available for those drivers with a tendency to shatter their standard bronze items. These steel rings may require regular re-lapping but will not break and jam the gearshift, enabling a race or event to be completed. We also make a one piece operating block which is much stronger than the original.
